About Bedrock Drilling Co.

A prime contractor that competitively bids and manages drilling, concrete, and installation — backed by a network of qualified crews and technology that matches the right equipment to every job.

How It Started

Bedrock was founded by Paul Fostey and Garret Hohman — two guys who spent years working in signage, construction, fabrication, and materials distribution across Texas.

Between the two of us, we've worked with over 200 sign companies — from wholesale manufacturing to fabrication and install shops. Pylon signs, monument signs, parking lot signs, gas station signage, program work — we've been deep in the supply chain for more than five years.

One day we were at lunch with one of our sign company customers and asked how they handle drilling. The answer was the same thing we'd start hearing everywhere: “We have one or two guys. When they're busy, we're stuck. And we pay a lot.”

We started quietly asking all of our distribution clients the same question. Some had one guy. Some had two at most. Many were going online and hoping someone would call them back. Almost all of them were overpaying — especially on turnkey jobs where they needed drilling, concrete, and install.

The Cat 308 Moment

Our first instinct was to just start a drilling company ourselves. One of our closest friends had run heavy equipment his whole life — he was ready to be our first operator.

Then we quoted our first job. The customer needed a 48" hole, 15 feet deep. He asked what machine we'd be using. We said a Cat 308. He looked at us and said: “That's not going to have enough downward force to get through the limestone.”

He was right. He knew more about drilling equipment than we did — because he'd been outsourcing this work for years and had seen what actually works in the ground.

That moment changed everything. We realized the problem wasn't just “we need to drill holes.” The problem was access to the right equipment — and knowing what “right” even means for a given hole in a given soil condition.

Building the Network

So we asked a different question: what if instead of being one crew with one machine, we built a network of crews and machines — and matched the right one to every job?

We started reaching out to people we already knew — equipment operators, concrete guys, fabricators, installers. The response was the same every time: “Yeah, I'd love more work. That's why I started my company.” These guys are proud of their machines. When their rig is sitting idle between jobs, that's money left on the table.

At the same time, we connected with friends in Austin running AI and tech startups. They'd been looking for real-world applications — something beyond building tools for other tech companies. When they heard what we were building, they saw the same thing we did: an industry with a massive coordination problem and zero technology solving it.

That Cat 308 moment became the foundation for our equipment recommendation system. If we couldn't always know what machine a job needs, we could build a system that does — one that recommends specific equipment based on hole size, depth, and ground conditions, then tracks how it actually performs on the job and gets sharper over time.

Not an App. A Prime Contractor.

People sometimes ask if we're like Uber for drilling. The short answer: yes, but we actually show up.

We're not a platform that connects you to a stranger and walks away. We're a prime contractor. We manage every job on site. We coordinate crews, confirm specifications, and make sure the work gets done right. The technology behind us — the competitive bidding, the equipment matching, the customer portal — is what makes us faster, smarter, and more transparent than a traditional drilling company. But you're hiring a managed service, not downloading an app.

Paul leads the technology and software development. Garret leads subcontractor relations, manages finances and insurance, and runs operations. Both of us act as on-site project managers — because the job doesn't run itself.
